A dear friend, a sweet card!

A dear friend is moving back to his home country of Korea today, after many years spent here in the States. It is bittersweet because while I know he is excited to be back home, surrounded by friends and family, we will miss him dearly!

As an accompanying parting gift to the party we threw, I made him this little card with our friends on it, and a few inside jokes. My friend is a filmmaker, and for anyone who has worked in the film industry, the weird shapes on the back of the card will hopefully make sense (C-Stands anyone?). Otherwise, this is an example of a little custom work of mine.

I used Bombay Ink and watercolor for the illustration, as well as colored pencils. I bought a few days ago the Epson paper sample pack for fine art  to broaden my paper horizons, and this was the perfect opportunity to try their Cold Press Natural paper. It did a wonderful job with the color rendering, and the texture was just right for the watercolor illustration, while not too rough for the pencil part. I really liked the rendition, and was happy to see my message displayed so nicely. I feel that it actually looked much better in print than on the computer screen here.

I hope it gives him a little piece of us on his long journey home, and a funny-something something to look back on and smile.

So long, my friend! We shall meet next in Seoul soon enough!
